Choosing a Pool Cover for Your Sydney Pool
Autumn is when the leaves start dropping and the water starts cooling, which makes it a good time to think about a pool cover. A good cover does more than keep the leaves out.
What a cover does
Keeps leaves and debris out, so the filter and chlorine have less to deal with
Cuts evaporation, so you top up the pool less often
Holds in heat, so the water stays warmer for longer into autumn and warms up sooner in spring
Reduces the chemicals used, because less debris and sun means less chlorine burnt off
The main types
Solar or bubble covers. The most common. They float on the water, hold in heat and cut evaporation.
Thermal covers. Thicker, and better at keeping heat in, particularly for heated pools and spas.
Leaf covers. Sit over the pool to keep debris out over winter, without the heating benefit.
Things to think about
Size and shape. A cover needs to be cut to fit your pool properly to work well.
A roller. A cover that is hard to take off does not get used. A roller makes it a one person job and keeps the cover off the ground when it is not on the pool.
Where the roller sits. It needs space at one end of the pool and should not block the gate or a path.
Looking after it. Keep it clean, roll it up when the pool is being shocked, and do not leave it lying in the sun off the water.
Replacing an old cover?
Covers break down in the sun over time. If yours is brittle, flaking or has holes, it has stopped doing its job and can make a mess of the filter. We measure, supply and fit covers and rollers.
